Is this delivery offer worth it?

Does this delivery or rideshare offer actually pay enough once car costs are counted?

How it works

  1. Count the whole trip: the drive to the pickup, the wait, the delivery and the drive back to a busy area.
  2. Multiply the total miles by your car's cost per mile (gas plus wear; many drivers land around 30–45¢).
  3. Subtract that from the offer pay, then divide by the total time to get real pay per hour. Divide the pay by the miles for pay per mile.
  4. Take the offer only if it meets both of your minimums: dollars per hour and dollars per mile.

Worked example

A $14.00 offer for 7 total miles and 25 minutes costs about $2.45 in car costs at 35¢ a mile. You keep $11.55, which is $27.72 an hour and $2.00 a mile. With minimums of $20 an hour and $1.50 a mile, it's a yes.
